I am happy to announce, that I just tagged the first release of Kurt, my first real open source project.
From Kurt’s README:
Kurt is an archiving tool for sets of files, e.g., digital photographs. It uses Amazon Glacier as its storage backend.
With Kurt I’m scratching my own itch. I have huge ammounts of RAW image data that I want to archive. Amazon Glacier seems to be the perfect fit. It’s very cheap and I trust Amazon to keep my data alive.
Amazon Glacier has two drawbacks, though: (1) downloading data can get expensive and (2) I don’t want Amazon (or anybody else) to read my content.
Kurt tries to fix both problems. To prevent downloading too much unneeded data it packs files in 1GB packfiles and helps you decide which packfiles to download. To prevent strangers to read your data it uses GPG to encrypt packfiles. With v0.1 Kurt doesn’t implent encryption yet, but it’s the next step.
Thanks for reading and happy archiving!
